Tommy Becker Larsen
Tommy Becker Larsen is a Norwegian sculptor born in 1984 in Trondheim. His work is characterised by a direct and instinctive relationship with the material, exploring the tensions between balance, transformation and stillness.
In his exploration of wood, he adopts an intuitive approach, allowing each piece to emerge from a dialogue with the material. Rather than imposing a form, he follows its natural lines, knots and variations. His sculptures, with their slender, organic silhouettes, evoke forms that are both human and mineral, often resembling figures in the making or condensed landscapes.
Light glides over carefully polished surfaces, revealing the richness of the grain and accentuating the contrasts between smoothness and roughness. Some works seem suspended in a fragile moment, as if oscillating between stability and collapse. This subtle tension lends his work a silent yet intense presence.
Deeply influenced by the Norwegian landscape, Tommy Becker Larsen maintains a close connection with nature, which nourishes his sculptural language. His forms possess an introspective quality, suggesting an inner space where sensation and perception converge.
His practice thus lies between mastery and surrender, where the initial intention gives way to the unexpected. Each sculpture becomes a point of balance between what is controlled and what eludes control.
“I am driven by the unknown within the process. By letting go, I create space for something outside of me to take part. In that tension between holding on and releasing, I find both connection and disconnection. And somewhere in between, the work begins to exist.”
